Chief Martin: Please accept the sincere thanks of the entire Ocean Village community for the recent outstanding efforts of your firefighters. The fire at Sandpiper Rd was a nasty one with potential to do seveere damage to neighboring properties. Thanks to your quick response, no one was injured and all properties protected. Your members were courtious, efficient and extremely professional. Thank you for a great organization.

I just learned of the passing of Doc Carey. I remember squeezing myself into the tiny jumpseat of Ladder 70 as Doc drove that beast to where ever it was that we were called. Ladder 70 was his "baby", and Station 70 was his "second family". Ladder 70, "the round table", and Doc will always be around in spirit. It is for me.

I was finally able to stop by and tour the "new" station and ambulances. The leadership at 70 has taken tremendous, impressive strides in bringing public safety to an even greater level in the district. Everything from the new HQ, ambulances, career FF/EMT's, live-in FF program, health & fitness program and increased training mandates have paved a path for other departments to follow. The lower east side is truly "committed to excellence"! A special thanks to Monte for taking the time to show my family around HQ. Be well and be safe.
