Bryan accepted his award on Saturday May 4th, 2013 at the Sussex County Paramedic's Award Banquet surrounded by his family and friends. Bryan is well respected by his co-workers and is well deserving of this award. Bryan is also a past recipient of the Josh Freeman Valor Award. At 2000 hours on Friday 3/15/13, Station 70 was dispatched to assist station 84 Millville on a reported working structure fire off of Dukes Drive. Tower 70 and Quint 70-4 were responding to a truck company assist to Ocean City and were quickly released to respond to the incident. A-70 and 70-11 responded from headquarters. On Friday February 15 2013 the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the Joshua L Freeman Valor Awards at a luncheon held at DiFebo’s Bistro on the Green restaurant. Assistant Chief Tom Moore and Firefighter/EMT Bryan Smith and Firefighter/EMT Philip Brakin where honored from the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company for their efforts that resulted in the successful resuscitation of a cardiac arrest patient on November 16, 2012.

On Thursday 1/10/13 Quint 70-4 participated in a Truck Company Operations class sponsored by Millville Station 84 and taught by Traditions Training. Multiple evolutions where ran by the crews from Millville, Bethany and Lewes including ground ladder throws, roof ventilation, search and overhaul. BBFVC appreciates the opportunity to train with our neighbors and share in this valuable practical evolution.

At 2120 hours Station 70 was dispatched for a truck company assist for Ocean City Fire Department. Tower 70, 70-8 and Quint 70-4 responded. Tower 70 was placed on side A and performed roof operations. Quint 70-4 was placed on side C and also laddered the roof, its crew assisted with truck operations as well. Station 70 units returned to quarters at 2315
