Career Firefighters are performing safety checks on the breathing apparatus they utilize when entering a structure filled with smoke or gas. This is a very important part of a firefighters job. Without using this piece of their equipment, they would quickly be overcome by smoke or a toxic gas and unable to perform their rescue functions.
