The passing of past chief Robert Clower - Station 70

Past Chief Robert O. "Bob" Clower Age 75, of Fenwick Island, died suddenly Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was born and raised in Wilmington and was the son of the late Robert O. Clower Sr. and Ann (Betts) Hanby Bob graduated from H. Fletcher Brown High School and worked for Delmarva Power & Light in Wilmington for 19 years. He moved to Fenwick Island in the early 70's and was the general manager of the Ocean City office of Eastern Shore Gas. In 1981 he purchased Ocean Side Sub Shop & Pizzeria in Fenwick Island and in 1983 he left Eastern Shore Gas to devote his energies to perfecting the "perfect pizza". Sunday, May 1st will mark 30 years of "perfect pizzas". He was proud to be a firefighter and was a life member of Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Co., Newark as well as a life member and a past Chief of the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Co. He was also a Mason and a member of Solomon Lodge 36 AF&AM, Newark and a member of St. Matthews By-The-Sea United Methodist Church, Fenwick Island. He is survived by his wife, Susan F. Clower of Fenwick Island; a son, Robert O. "Rob" Clower III (Kalealani Ramos) of Puerto Rico and a grandson, M. Tucker Smawley of Fenwick Island. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Candy J. Smawley in 2007. A funeral service was held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 4 at HASTINGS FUNERAL HOME, 19 South Main St., Selbyville where friends called on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday. Burial is in Redman's Cemetery in Selbyville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Bethany Beach Vol. Fire Dept., P.O.
