New 70-8 is in service - Station 70 Headquarters
Monday, July 11, 2011
BBVFC has placed the new 70-8 in service as our duty officer and command unit. A 2011 Chevy Suburban it has been modified with the removal of the side rear windows that allow three work stations for command and staff officers. Equipped with a mobile data terminal that links it to the 911 center, the officer can be guided to the scene by GPS and track other units responding to the call. Once on scene the unit’s computers allow for the tracking of personnel and equipment, as well as the ability to send a notice to firefighters SCBA to exit the building in an emergency. Radios in the unit allow for communications with Delaware and Maryland companies, as well as a marine radio. White and magnetic boards give the officers further tools to manage both small and complex incident scenes.
A committee led by past chief Brian Martin worked to make the new 70-8 a very functional unit to serve the BBVFC into the future.
