Monday, July 23, 2012
At 1854 hours station 70 was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Surf’s Up restaurant at 100 Garfield Parkway. EMS Chief Scott arrived and established command placing Deputy Chief Parrett in charge of operations. A small exterior fire was discovered with extension into the wall and into the floor of division 2. The assignment was upgraded to a working fire alarm bringing mutual aide form Millville, Roxanna, Frankford and SCEMS. Quint 70-5 laid a 5” supply line and advanced a 2” attack line with Chief Martin taking command of the interior. Tower 70 laddered the roof and checked for extension. Quint 70-4 went to the rear in the alley. Bethany Police and Station 70 fire police did an excellent job controlling the large summer crowd and traffic, allowing the rapid positioning of apparatus and hose lines. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. The scene and investigation was turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshall's Office.
