FF/EMT James "Bryan" Smith Medic 105 EMT of the Year - Bethany Beach

FF/EMT Bryan Smith has been named the Medic 105 District EMT of the year. Bryan accepted his award on Saturday May 4th, 2013 at the Sussex County Paramedic's Award Banquet surrounded by his family and friends. Bryan is well respected by his co-workers and is well deserving of this award. Bryan is also a past recipient of the Josh Freeman Valor Award. James "Bryan" Smith was born and raised in Baton Rouge Louisiana and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. He lives in Georgetown with his wife and seven children. Bryan started his fire service career as a volunteer with East Side Volunteer Fire Department in 1985. He served with the St. George Volunteer Fire Department in Baton Rouge, and Whitfield County Volunteer Fire Department in Dalton, Georgia. After moving to Savannah, Georgia, Bryan volunteered with Southside Fire Department and started working as a paid Truck, Engine and Tanker operator. Bryan then went to work full time with Thunderbolt Fire Department as the career staff supervisor before moving to Delaware and joining the staff at Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company in 2008. Bryan also worked at Dow Chemical Emergency Services for 12 years as an industrial firefighter and hazardous materials technician for railroad emergencies involving ethylene oxide. Bryan served the National Guard as a Combat Medic and was deployed with a South Carolina unit to Sadr City, Iraq 2007-2008 attached to First Squadron, Second Cavalry Regiment. He is currently serving in the Delaware National Guard as the site medic at the Bethany Beach Training Site. Bryan attended Dalton State University and Armstrong Atlantic State University majoring in Psychology. Bryan enjoys living and raising his family in lower Delaware and the opportunity to serve this community.
