Truck Company Operation Drills - Pennsylvania Ave Bethany Beach

On Wednesday night 10/30/13 BBVFC and Millville VFC took advantage of a unique training opportunity. Using a building slated for demolition on the grounds of the Bethany Beach Christian Church off of Pennsylvania Ave, the companies had a night of truck company operations drills. With the help of Instructor Michael Lombardo (retired fire commissioner Buffalo NY) crews did evolutions in search and rescue using simulated smoke, SCBA mask obstructions and thermal imaging cameras to enhance the reality of searching a large building with limited visibility. They also practiced techniques to open ceilings and walls to search for hidden fire spread. The evening finished with practice in ventilation of windows and roofs from both ground ladders and aerials. Junior members also participated with special attention to placing ground ladders and learning basic firefighting skills.
