Friday, January 3, 2014
At 2149 Station 70 was dispatched to a reported appliance fire at 110 Anchorage Drive in South Bethany. Chief Martin in 70-8 arrived and found smoke showing from division 2 of a three story residential structure. He immediately ordered Quint 70-4 to lay a supply line and upgraded the response to a working alarm. Sussex EOC filled the assignment with Stations 84, 90 and 76 along with Medic 105.
Quint 70-4 took side A and stretched an attack line quickly knocking down a fire around a gas fire place that had extended into the walls and ceiling. Tower 70 and Quint 70-5 crews laddered the structure, secured utilities and assisted in opening up the walls and ceilings checking for extension. Rescue 70 secured a second supply line to Tower 70. With the rapid knock down and frigid conditions all supply lines where kept dry. EMS units established a rehab area and stood by.
Mutual aide companies assisted with overhaul and assisted in picking up the scene. As units where clearing a dumpster fire was dispatched on Bunting Ave in Fenwick Island. This was handled by Rescue 70 and Quint 70-5.
