Firefighter Survival and Rescue Drills - Garfield Parkway Bethany Beach

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

“Training to save yourself and your own” was the theme for the December 28, 2011 drill. Using a donated structure on Garfield Parkway, the members of the BBVFC practiced techniques and skills they hope they never have to use. Experienced and new firefighters practiced skills needed to extricate a firefighter from a basement following a collapse. They also drilled emergency ‘bail out” techniques from an upper floor window. And finally using a 180 pound rescue dummy with an SCBA they practiced a one and two firefighter procedure (Denver Drill) for lifting an unconscious firefighter over a window sill and onto a ladder. These drills help our members to better prepare for the worst situation under controlled safe conditions.
