Bethany Beach and Mutual Aide companies responded to a working structure fire today on the 3100 block of Sandpiper Rd in the Ocean Village development in North Bethany. 70-8 with Deputy Chief Truitt, Quint 70-5 with a crew of 5 under the direction of Asst. Chief Brackin upon responding were advised by EOC that the caller advised that her house was on fire and was evacuating. 70-8 and 70-5 arrived to find a 2 story single family home on pilings with smoke conditions, Deputy 70 established the command. 70-5 secured their own water supply and stretched the 300' 2 inch hand line to the front door. 70-5 officer (Brackin) advised that they found the fire in the front room of the first floor on the Alpha side. Tower 70 responded under direction of the Fire Chief (Martin) and arrived assuming the first due truck company assignment Chief Martin was assigned the Operations officer. Tower 70 threw ground ladders to all four sides and performed primary searches of the structure which proved negative findings. Truck 84 arrived under the direction of Asst. Chief Scott and performed secondary searches and assisted with ventilation of the structure with the search proving negative findings. Eng 76-2, Rescue 90, Eng 84, Medic 105 and Amb 84 arrived and level one staged. The fire was knocked by the initial engine company 70-5 and overhaul was performed by the truck companies. Command placed the incident under control holding units for overhaul, units operated for approximately one hour. The scene was turned over to the State FMO for investigation on the cause of the fire. Quick engine and truck company operations and responses kept the fire to a minimum.
Departments responding: Bethany Beach, Millville, Roxana, Frankford, Rehoboth Beach, Ocean City alerted for cover up, Dagsboro alerted for cover up.
